01 — Our Mission
Breaking the silence. Building the shield.
P.A.I.N. is a registered Australian charity founded by Ronald Waters — a survivor who carried 45 years of institutional truth into the nation's highest inquiry, and came out the other side with a mandate to protect the next generation.
What we stand for
- Child abuse prevention through visible, frontline community action
- Breaking decades of institutional silence — on the record, permanently
- Survivor-led advocacy founded and directed by Ronald Waters
- Zero tolerance for systems that protect reputations over children
The Manifesto
Three chapters. One unbroken record.
The Silence
For 45 years, institutions counted on our quiet. We counted the years instead — every name, every date, every locked door, recorded and carried to the nation's highest inquiry.
The Stone
They tried to bury us beneath the stone. Stone is heavy. So is the truth — and on 31 May 2017, the weight shifted permanently onto the record.
The Seed
They did not know we were seeds to be grown. What grew is a charity on the street, in the courts, and beside every survivor who refuses to stay buried.
Drop the mask. You are not alone.
I know firsthand what it means to face the start of a new week while navigating mental health struggles. I live this journey every single day, and I continue to fight — both for my own well-being and for everyone in our community who feels unseen.
Behind Every Mask, there is a silent battle. So many of us put on a brave face to face the world, hiding the exhaustion and pain underneath. But you do not have to carry that weight alone, and you do not have to pretend to be okay.
True advocacy requires real action and reliable resources. That is why we are incredibly proud to partner with Harmony Harbour Mental Health Services — a deeply professional crisis team ready to support you when things get heavy. Together, we make sure you have immediate access to help whenever you need it.
If you are struggling today, please drop the mask and reach out. We are here, and you are not alone.
